Sonali Bank chairman resigns

Staff Correspondent »

  • Mohammad Muslim Chowdhury, chairman of state-owned Sonali Bank , resigned on Monday morning. He told the media that the decision was due to personal reasons.

According to several officials inside the bank, there was unease surrounding allegations of political pressure and administrative interference after the recent national elections. Pressure to transfer the chairman and managing director was mounting, they said.

After the change of government in August 2024, Muslim Chowdhury took over as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sonali Bank. Previously, he served as the country’s former Auditor and Comptroller General (CAG) and Finance Secretary. He gained extensive administrative experience by joining the BCS Audit and Accounts cadre in 1984.

Those concerned believe that uncertainty has arisen regarding new appointments to the bank’s top leadership following the resignation.
