
President Mohammad Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman paid tribute to the martyrs of the language movement at the Central Shaheed Minar in the early hours of February 21. They laid wreaths at 12:01 am as part of the state program for International Mother Language Day and Martyrs’ Day.

The President and Prime Minister stood in silence for a moment to pay tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the demand for Bangla as the national language. After that, members of the party’s standing committee, led by BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, placed wreaths at the Shaheed Minar.
Former President Ziaur Rahman ‘s family also paid tribute. Tarique Rahman, his wife Zubaida Rahman , and daughter Zaima Rahman were present at the event .

The chiefs of the three services – Army Chief Waqar-uz-Zaman , Navy Chief M Nazmul Hasan , and Air Force Chief Hassan Mahmud Khan – paid tribute to the language martyrs .
Later, Shafiqur Rahman, the Leader of the Opposition in the 13th National Parliament and Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, along with leaders of the 11-party alliance, laid wreaths. Opposition Chief Whip and National Citizen Party convener Nahid Islam were present at the time.
