Preparations have been completed for the swearing-in ceremony of the new government led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) , which is returning to power after two decades . The ceremony will be held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Tuesday (February 17) at 4 pm.
According to Cabinet Division sources, around 1,200 guests, both domestic and foreign, will be present at the swearing-in ceremony. President Mohammad Shahabuddin is likely to administer the oath to the new cabinet members at the ceremony .
Among the foreign guests, high-level representatives from several countries in South Asia and the Middle East are coming to Dhaka. Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay , Indian Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Pakistan’s Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal are among those likely to attend . Besides, ministers from Nepal, Maldives and Sri Lanka are also expected to attend the event, diplomatic sources said.
The Chief Election Commissioner will administer the oath to the newly elected members of parliament at 10 am. After that, the new prime minister will be elected at a meeting of the BNP parliamentary party.
According to political analysts, this swearing-in ceremony is not just a formality for a change of government but is also being considered as an indicator of a new democratic chapter in Bangladeshi politics.
