Japan has termed the 13th parliamentary elections as credible and participatory . At the same time , the country has officially congratulated the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its chairman Tarique Rahman for their victory in the elections .
A statement from the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka said that Tokyo expressed satisfaction that the elections were conducted peacefully and in an acceptable manner with the spontaneous participation of the people of Bangladesh. While congratulating all political parties and leaderships, the statement specifically mentioned the electoral success of the BNP.
Japan expressed hope that the process of forming a new government will be smooth and stable, and expressed its interest in further strengthening the long-standing strategic partnership between Dhaka and Tokyo.
