The interim government has said that power will be transferred to the elected government as soon as possible after the results of the 13th national election are announced. The Chief Advisor’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said that the process may take a maximum of three days to complete and the new government will take office by February 17 or 18.
Speaking at a press conference at the Foreign Service Academy in the capital on Thursday afternoon, he said that the formal process of transferring power will begin immediately after the newly elected members of parliament take the oath after the elections. This change will be possible quickly as administrative preparations have already been made.
Earlier, a meeting of the Advisory Council was held under the chairmanship of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.
The press conference also dismissed ongoing rumors about the tenure of the interim government. Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad said that the claim that the government will remain in power for 180 working days is baseless and misleading. In his words, the position has been clear from the beginning about the interim government leaving after handing over the responsibility of running the state to the majority party after the elections.
