The Election Commission (EC) has banned the movement of various types of vehicles for a specific period before and after the polling day on February 12, focusing on the 13th National Parliament election. According to the directive, motorcycles will be banned for three consecutive days and several other types of vehicles will be banned for 24 hours on polling day.
According to the EC’s decision, the movement of taxicabs, pickups, microbuses and trucks will be banned from midnight on February 11 to midnight on February 12. In addition, a 72-hour ban on the movement of motorcycles will be in effect from midnight on February 10 to midnight on February 13.
However, vehicles belonging to law enforcement, armed forces, administration, emergency services, media and authorized observers will be exempt from this ban. In addition, medical and pharmaceutical transportation, passengers traveling to the airport, long-distance public transportation and, subject to approval, candidates and election agents will be allowed to travel in one vehicle each.
The directive further states that restrictions may be relaxed on national highways, ports and important inter-district roads if necessary. District Magistrates or Metropolitan Police Commissioners may impose or relax additional restrictions as needed, considering the local situation.
