Nasiruddin Patwari, the candidate of the 11-party electoral alliance in Dhaka-8 constituency and the chief coordinator of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), was attacked again on Tuesday afternoon when he was attending a pitha festival organized by Habibullah Bahar University College in Shantinagar, the capital, as an invited guest.
Nasiruddin Patwari and NCP convener Nahid Islam have leveled allegations against BNP candidate Mirza Abbas and BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman in this incident. Nahid Islam claimed that the attack was planned by ‘identified terrorists’ from the college and that BNP was behind it.
Mahbub Alam, head of the party’s election media subcommittee, said that when tension arose at the venue, a group of people surrounded Nasiruddin Patwari, shouted ‘fake’ slogans and threw eggs one after another. He later left the college premises and took a position outside.
Ramna Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Rahat Khan said police were present at the scene and tried to control the situation.
It is worth noting that three days earlier, eggs and dirty water were thrown at Nasiruddin Patwari’s election campaign in Siddheshwari. In protest against the latest attack, the NCP held a press conference in Fakirapul, where they demanded justice for the attack and action against the culprits.
