Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has urged the countrymen to vote ‘yes’ in the upcoming referendum. In a video message to the nation on Monday (January 19), he said that the ‘yes’ vote will open the door to building a new Bangladesh.
The chief advisor said that the people’s consent is needed to implement the July Charter, which was drafted in the wake of the July popular uprising, and the referendum has been organized for that purpose. The referendum will be held on the day of the next parliamentary elections on February 12.
In a video message, he said that a ‘yes’ vote in the referendum means a Bangladesh free from discrimination and exploitation, a joint role of the government and opposition in forming a caretaker government and election commission, a balance of power, independence of the judiciary, setting a term limit for the prime minister, and ensuring parliamentary reforms.
He urged everyone to go to the polling stations and vote ‘yes’ themselves and encourage others.
