Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has said that the upcoming national elections and referendum must be made successful at all costs and that the elections will be held on February 12 as scheduled. He made it clear that this year’s elections will not be a chaotic one; the government, the Election Commission and political parties have a joint responsibility to make it fair and festive.
The chief advisor made these remarks at a meeting with a delegation led by Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman at the State Guest House Jamuna on Sunday evening. The meeting discussed election preparations, security and referendum.
Dr. Yunus said that CCTV cameras will be installed in most polling stations and body cameras will be used for officials in high-risk centers. He also said that a hotline will be open to receive complaints during the election.
Jamaat leaders said that the election campaign will begin in full swing from January 22 and their campaign in favor of a ‘yes’ vote in the referendum will continue. At the end of the meeting, the chief advisor called on everyone to unite and make the election a success.
