Saudi Arabia has sent a strong message to Iran amid fears of a possible US military operation. Riyadh has directly informed Iran that it will not allow Saudi airspace or territory to be used in any attack against Tehran.
The position was announced after the United States warned of military action over the ongoing crackdown on anti-government protests in Iran, AFP news agency reported on Wednesday, citing two sources close to the Saudi government.
A source close to the Saudi military said that Saudi Arabia does not agree to be part of any possible military operation against Iran and will not allow the use of its airspace or land for this purpose. Another government source also confirmed that this message has been conveyed to Tehran.
Meanwhile, Iran has warned that it will strike US military and naval assets if there is a new attack. Analysts believe that Saudi Arabia’s position has added a new dimension to regional diplomacy in the context of the significant US military presence in the Middle East.
