The Election Commission (EC) has begun the second day of hearings on appeals filed against the Returning Officer’s decision to select nomination papers ahead of the 13th National Parliament election. The appeals of 10 out of the 12 candidates scheduled for the hearing held at the Election Building in Agargaon on Sunday morning were granted.
EC sources said that the hearings of 12 candidates were completed in the first 32 minutes of the second day. Of these, one candidate’s appeal was rejected and another’s appeal was kept pending.
The candidates whose appeals were granted include Jamaat-e-Islami, Jatiya Party, Khelafat Majlis, AB Party and independent candidates from various constituencies. While the appeal of a Jatiya Party candidate in Comilla-1 constituency is pending, the appeal of an independent candidate in Faridpur-3 constituency has been rejected.
The Election Commission has announced that the appeal hearing against the cancellation of nominations will continue in the coming days as per the scheduled schedule.
