Iran’s regular army and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have declared a “red line” for the angry public amid ongoing violent protests. In separate statements on Saturday, they warned that attempts to attack state property and security installations would be severely suppressed.
In a statement broadcast on state television, the IRGC said that in recent days, terrorists have been involved in attempts to seize military and law enforcement bases, set fire to government property, and killed security members and civilians. It called these actions “unacceptable” and announced strict measures to protect the Islamic Revolution and state security.
In a separate statement, the regular army also expressed its firm stance in protecting national interests, strategic infrastructure, and government property.
It is worth noting that the protests began with a strike in Tehran on December 28 to protest the long-standing devaluation of the currency, high inflation, and rising living costs. Within a short time, it spread to almost all provinces of the country. The government has taken strict measures to control the situation, including deploying security forces and cutting off internet and mobile connections. According to international media, more than 200 people have been killed in the protests in the past 13 days.
