Turkey has expressed interest in joining the existing mutual defense agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. If implemented, this initiative could significantly change the balance of power in the Middle East and the surrounding region, according to international news agency Bloomberg.
Bloomberg reported that the talks on this issue have progressed a lot and the possibility of forming this trilateral security alliance is very high. In September last year in Riyadh, Pakistani Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman signed a strategic mutual defense agreement. According to the agreement, an attack on either country will be considered an aggression against both countries.
The report said that Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have increasingly converged interests in South Asia, the Middle East and Africa. Over-reliance on the United States and uncertainty about former US President Donald Trump’s position in NATO have also made Turkey interested in alternative security alliances.
According to analysts, a strong regional security zone can be formed by combining Saudi Arabia’s economic power, Pakistan’s nuclear capabilities and manpower, and Turkey’s military experience and defense industry.
