US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States wants to take control of Greenland at any cost. In a meeting with top oil industry executives, he said that the United States will take over Greenland one way or another, whether the islanders like it or not.
When asked about the potential cost of making Greenland part of the United States, Trump said, “It’s not about money, it’s about control,” according to Russian news agency TASS. He claimed that if the United States does not step up, Russia or China could gain influence there, which Washington does not want.
Trump also said that the issue will be resolved peacefully, but if necessary, tough measures will be taken. According to him, US ownership is the only way to ensure the security of Greenland.
Trump has previously made several comments that Greenland should be part of the United States. Recent statements from the White House have not completely ruled out the possibility of using military force.
It should be noted that Greenland is currently an autonomous region of Denmark and the United States is responsible for its defense under the NATO agreement.
