The LP Gas Traders Cooperative Society Limited has announced to stop the supply and sale of liquefied natural gas (LPG) cylinders across the country until their just demands are met. The organization said the program will be effective from Thursday (January 8).
In a notice issued on Wednesday (January 7), the association said that all LPG marketing activities in the country will remain closed until the demands are met. In addition, gas extraction activities from plants of various companies will also be suspended.
Earlier on the same day, the traders held a press conference in front of the National Press Club to present their demands and gave an ultimatum to stop selling if their demands were not met within 24 hours. As no solution was reached within the stipulated time, the sale was officially announced in the evening.
LP Gas Traders Association President Salim Khan said that cylinder sales will be suspended from Thursday morning. He also said that a meeting with the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) is scheduled for 3 pm on Thursday. If the demands are accepted in the meeting, sales will resume, otherwise the program will continue.
This decision has raised concerns among ordinary consumers using LPG across the country.
