The government has ordered a halt to the broadcast of all Indian Premier League (IPL) matches and events in protest against the exclusion of Bangladesh’s star pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders. The directive was issued in a notification by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting on Tuesday (January 5).
The notification said that without any logical reason, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to exclude Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL, which has hurt and angered the people of Bangladesh. In this situation, it has been asked to stop broadcasting all IPL games and events until further orders. This order has been issued in the public interest and with the approval of the appropriate authorities.
It is worth noting that Mustafiz’s participation in the IPL, which is scheduled to start on March 26, 2026, has been under discussion for several days. In the wake of protests by hardline Hindu groups in India, the BCCI announced its decision to drop Mustafiz on Saturday. Later, Kolkata Knight Riders officially confirmed that he is no longer in their squad.
