
The month of December saw the second highest amount of remittances in the country’s history. During this period, expatriate income reached 322.67 million US dollars, which is approximately 39,365 billion taka in local currency (122 taka per dollar).
Bangladesh Bank’s updated data on Thursday (January 1) said that remittances in December were about $340 million higher than in November and about $590 million higher than in the same period last year. Remittances were $2.89 billion in November and $2.64 billion in December 2024.
In December, $572.3 million came through state-owned banks, $353.5 million came through Krishi Bank, among specialized banks. The maximum amount of $2293.9 million came through private banks, and about $6.9 million came through foreign banks.
Monthly remittances have increased continuously from July to December of the current fiscal year. Earlier, the highest remittance of $3.29 billion was received in March of the 2024-25 fiscal year, which was a record for that fiscal year. The total remittances for the entire fiscal year stood at $30.33 billion, which is about 26.8 percent more than the previous year.
