BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s political rival and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has expressed deep grief over the death of her. In a condolence message, she said, “Khaleda Zia’s contribution as the country’s first female Prime Minister in the movement to establish democracy is immense; her death has caused an irreparable loss to the country’s current politics and the BNP leadership.”
In a condolence message published on the banned Awami League social media, Sheikh Hasina prayed for the eternal peace of Khaleda Zia’s soul and expressed condolences to the bereaved family members, including her son Tarique Rahman.
Sheikh Hasina said Khaleda Zia played an important role in the country’s democratic movement as an ‘uncompromising leader’ in the anti-dictatorship movement of the 1990s. Her long political journey as a five-time member of parliament and three-time prime minister will be memorable in the history of Bangladesh.
It is worth noting that Begum Khaleda Zia passed away at the age of 80 at Evercare Hospital in the capital on Tuesday morning after a long illness.
