A new controversy has arisen over the election funds of Dr. Tasnim Zara, a parliamentary candidate for Dhaka-9 constituency, after she resigned from the National Citizens Party (NCP). Former parliamentarian Golam Maula Rony has raised the question of what will happen to the nearly 50 lakh taka she collected as a donation in the name of the party.
In his verified Facebook post on Sunday, Roni wrote that even though she has the right to leave the party, accountability for the money collected from the common people to be elected as the leader of the NCP is essential. According to him, the money should either be returned to the donors, or the matter should be clarified publicly by depositing it in the NCP fund. Otherwise, Tasnim Zara may face legal and moral complications, he also warned.
Earlier, on December 22, Tasneem Zara had appealed for donations for election expenses. Within 29 hours of the announcement, about 4.7 million taka was deposited in her account through mobile banking and banks. Now, questions are being raised about the transparency of the use of this money after leaving the NCP.
