Dhaka — Two days after returning home, BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman officially started working at the party chairperson’s office in Gulshan on Sunday. He arrived at the office from his residence at 196 Gulshan Avenue at 1:40 pm. This is his first appearance at the office after the political upheaval of 11 years.
Upon reaching the office, senior leaders including party standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Abdul Moin Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Selima Rahman welcomed him with flowers. After exchanging greetings, Tarique Rahman sat in his chamber on the second floor.
Later, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain told reporters that it was not a formal meeting. However, organizational matters, the future of democracy in the country and the upcoming elections were discussed.
Party sources said that a separate chamber has also been prepared for the acting chairman at the central office in Naya Paltan. In addition, a house has been rented in Gulshan, from where activities related to the 13th National Parliament election will be conducted.
Tarique Rahman is having a busy time after returning home after a long period of almost a decade and a half. After attending the reception on the day of his arrival, he went to Evercare Hospital to see his mother. In the following days, he remained active in political and personal programs by visiting the graves of martyred President Ziaur Rahman and martyrs, completing voter registration, and paying homage at the family graveyard.
