BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman is preparing to contest from Dhaka-17 constituency in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election. Nomination forms were collected on his behalf from the Dhaka Divisional Commissioner’s office in Segunbagicha on Sunday (December 28) morning.
The party confirmed that ABM Abdus Sattar, the BNP Chairperson’s private secretary, collected the nomination papers at around 11 am. Earlier, nomination forms were also collected for Tarique Rahman from Bogra-6 constituency.
Party sources said that after returning home, Tarique Rahman has applied to become a voter of Dhaka-17 constituency. At the same time, the decision to participate in the election from this constituency in the capital has been finalized at the request of senior BNP leaders.
Meanwhile, the news of Tarique Rahman’s contesting from Dhaka-17 constituency has seen a change in the political equation. Former BNP MP Andalib Rahman Partha, who was elected as a member of parliament from that constituency in 2008, has announced that he will contest from Bhola-1 constituency out of respect.
