Law enforcement agencies have arrested at least nine people in connection with the attacks on the national daily Prothom Alo and The Daily Star in coordinated operations in Dhaka and various parts of the country .
This information was announced in a press release published on the Chief Advisor’s verified Facebook page on Monday (December 22) morning.
The statement said that the suspects were identified by analyzing video footage of the attacks, vandalism and arson on the offices of media outlets and two cultural organizations. As a result, nine people have been arrested as of Monday morning. The identities of seven of them have been confirmed, while the identities of the rest are being verified.
Some of the arrested have confessed to their direct participation in the attack and looting during initial interrogation. The looted money and electronic items purchased with it were recovered from one of them. According to police, several of them have multiple previous cases of violence and other crimes against them.
Law enforcement officials said at least 31 people have been initially identified based on video footage and digital clues. Investigations are ongoing to determine the network and motive behind the attack.
