Police have asked senior journalist Anis Alamgir to be placed on a seven-day remand in a case filed with Uttara West police station. The investigation officer of the case, Uttara West police station inspector Muniruzzaman, filed the petition on Monday.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam is scheduled to hear the remand petition today, prosecutors said.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) on Sunday night took Anis Alamgir into custody after he left a gym in Dhanmondi. He was then taken to the DB office for questioning.
Four people, including actress Meher Afroz Shaon, have been accused in the case. The case was filed by Aryan Ahmed, a central organizer of the Revolutionary Alliance, in July. The other accused are fashion model Maria Kispatta and presenter Imtu Ratish Imtiaz.
According to the lawsuit, since August 5, 2024, the accused have been campaigning for the rehabilitation of banned organisations on social media and television talk shows. This has been alleged that the banned Chhatra League and Jubo League activists have been encouraged to commit a conspiracy to destroy the violence and infrastructure.
In the remand petition, the investigation officer said that due to the lack of time, it is not yet possible to interrogate the accused in detail. A seven-day remand is required to identify the fugitive associates, determine their location and collect information related to the case.
