The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested a man on suspicion of owning a motorcycle used in the attack on Inqilab Mancha convener Sharif Osman bin Hadi. Motijheel deputy commissioner Harun-or-Rashid confirmed that the man, Abdul Hannan, was handed over to Paltan police station on Sunday morning.
According to police, RAB-2 initially confirmed that the motorcycle used in the attack was owned by him. However, no case has been registered in this connection so far. Efforts are being made to provide a detailed statement from the RAB.
Osman Hadi was shot while in a moving auto-rickshaw in front of the Vijaynagar water tank in the capital on Friday afternoon. A man in the back of the motorcycle opened fire on him, which hit him in the head. He was first taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later to Evercare Hospital. According to the doctors, his condition is still critical.
DMP commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali expressed hope of a speedy arrest. Later, home adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh to arrest the attacker.
