Dhaka—In the context of the recent violent incidents in the capital, the chief advisor to the interim government, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, has held a meeting with the country’s major political parties. Representatives of the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and the National Citizens Party (NCP) participated in the meeting held at the state guest house Jamuna on Saturday (December 13).
BNP was represented by party standing committee member Salauddin Ahmed and retired Major Hafiz Uddin Ahmed. Jamaat-e-Islami was represented by Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar and Assistant Secretary General Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair. The NCP delegation included party convener Nahid Islam and chief organizer (south) Hasnat Abdullah.
The meeting was held a day after the armed attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8 constituency, a day earlier. The chief advisor had called an emergency meeting with law enforcement and members of the advisory council on Friday evening in response to the incident. The dialogue with political parties is being held as part of discussions on the latest situation and election security.
