Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin met with President Md. Shahabuddin on the eve of the announcement of the schedule for the upcoming parliamentary elections.
A delegation comprising four election commissioners and EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed participated in the meeting at Bangabhaban on Wednesday.
The CEC presented the overall progress of the election preparations at the meeting. The President said that he was satisfied with the commission’s preparations and would provide all necessary assistance to organize a fair election.
The EC secretary said in the briefing that the discussion highlighted the process of updating the voter list, registering political parties and organizing a referendum on election day. The President was also informed about the extension of the polling time by one hour and various aspects of the election management.
After leaving Bangabhaban, the commission held a meeting at the Election Building. The possibility of announcing the schedule by the end of the day has strengthened, as Bangladesh Television and Betar have been called to record the CEC’s speech in the afternoon – which is seen as a prelude to the announcement of the schedule according to the prevailing custom.
