The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against 14 influential bureaucrats and government officials, including Obaidul Quader, for allegedly allocating and leasing illegal land while he was the Minister of Road Transport and Bridges.
According to the complaint, land acquired for the rehabilitation of victims of the Dhaka Elevated Expressway project was later used to build flats for government officials and employees and was given long-term leases—which contradicts the purpose of the project.
ACC Assistant Director Khorshed Alam filed the case on Tuesday. ACC Director General Md. Akhter Hossain said that the accused in the case include former secretaries of various ministries and departments, the former chief coordinator of the Prime Minister’s Office and the current chairman of Sonali Bank, along with several other top officials.
This is considered the most serious allegation against Obaidul Quader in recent times. The ACC said that the initial investigation revealed both abuse of power and misuse of state resources.
The case is now at the investigation stage; legal proceedings against the accused will be initiated at the next stage.
