The International Crimes Tribunal has taken cognizance of the charges brought against Sajeeb Wazed Joy and former State Minister Junaid Ahmed Palak for their role in the genocide by shutting down the internet during the July uprising. On Thursday (November 4) afternoon, the tribunal issued an arrest warrant against Joy.
The tribunal said the order was issued after verifying the preliminary admissibility of the complaint. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for December 10.
Palak has already been arrested in multiple cases and is in jail. Along with this, charges have also been filed against Salman F. Rahman and Anisul Haque and they have been ordered to appear in court on the same date. Both of them are currently in jail.
These cases have raised new questions about the government’s role in regulating social unrest and digital infrastructure.
