Preparations to take BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia to London for advanced treatment have been finalized. Personal physician and party standing committee member AZM Zahid Hossain confirmed this information at a press conference in front of Evercare Hospital on Thursday (December 4).
He said that if everything goes well, she will be taken to London by an air ambulance sent by the Qatari government after midnight today or early Friday morning. The decision to take Khaleda Zia abroad has been made considering her physical condition and the advice of specialist doctors. Formal contact has also been made with a hospital in London.
Diplomatic sources said Qatar has officially agreed to send an air ambulance at the BNP’s request. Meanwhile, UK specialist doctor Richard Belle and four Chinese experts are already in Dhaka to assist in his treatment.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia went to London for advanced treatment in January and returned home in May after four months of treatment.
He was admitted to Evercare Hospital on the night of November 23 due to increasing breathing difficulties. After being diagnosed with a lung infection, he was transferred from the SDU to the CCU last Sunday when his condition deteriorated.
