BNP Vice Chairman Ahmed Azam Khan has said that all preparations have been made to take BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia abroad for treatment. He said that hospitals in different countries have been contacted and an air ambulance is ready for immediate transfer if needed.
He told reporters on Saturday afternoon that Khaleda Zia is currently under close observation in the CCU of Evercare Hospital. The medical board will take the final decision if she reaches the stage where she can be taken abroad.
The former prime minister, who is in his 80s, was admitted to the hospital on November 23 after developing a lung infection and heart complications. A medical board comprising local and foreign experts is continuing his treatment, and leaders of various political parties are visiting the hospital every day to check on him.
BNP leader Nazim Uddin Alam visited her on Saturday morning and sought prayers from the countrymen. Joint Secretary General Khairul Kabir Khokon said that although her condition is stable, concerns have not subsided. The Jatiya Nagorik Party delegation has also expressed concern about the deterioration of Khaleda Zia’s condition; however, it was also said that she understands the doctors’ instructions.
President Mohammad Shahabuddin has expressed deep concern over the deterioration of his physical condition and sought prayers from the countrymen. Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus is also regularly checking on the progress of his treatment and has ordered assistance if needed.
Meanwhile, NCP convener Nahid Islam wrote on social media, “Khaleda Zia is a symbol of Bangladesh’s democratic struggle, and her political experience is still important for the nation in this transitional period. I wish her a speedy recovery.
