The government has promoted 33 officers to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) as part of a high-level restructuring of the Bangladesh Police. The Public Security Division of the Home Ministry confirmed the promotions through two separate notifications on Wednesday.
The notification stated that the promotion of officers promoted to the rank of DIG (Grade-3) based on the recommendation of the Ministry of Public Administration will be effective immediately.
Meanwhile, in another important administrative decision ahead of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections, the responsibilities of police superintendents of 64 districts of the country have been redistributed through lottery. The reshuffle has been made to ensure a neutral environment at the field level surrounding the elections, according to ministry sources.
A new structure is being created at the top level of the administration, focusing on promotions and transfers, which those concerned believe will play an important role in managing election security.
