The Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has recovered a huge amount of gold ornaments from two lockers in the name of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the main branch of Agrani Bank in the capital. A total of 832 bhors of gold and several valuables were found after the lockers were opened on Tuesday evening, the NBR confirmed.
The lockers were seized as part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of corruption and tax evasion on the orders of the interim government. According to the CIC, approximately 4,923 grams of gold were found in locker number 701 and 4,783 grams in locker number 753 —a total of 9,707 grams , which is approximately 833 bhari .
On the same day, another locker belonging to Sheikh Hasina was opened at Pubali Bank, but nothing was found there.
Earlier, the International Crimes Tribunal-1 ordered the confiscation of all assets of Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, who were convicted of crimes against humanity. The court also ordered compensation to be paid to the families of those killed and injured in the movement.
After the Awami League government fell in a student uprising on August 5 last year, the interim government began special surveillance of the financial transactions and assets of Sheikh Hasina and her family.
