Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has sought full support from the Commonwealth to ensure a free and fair 13th National Parliamentary Election. He made the request on Monday (24 November) during a meeting with Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland at the state guesthouse Jamuna.
“We need your cooperation to successfully conduct the upcoming national election and to advance our democratic transition,” Dr. Yunus said.
Secretary-General Scotland assured him of the organization’s support. “The Commonwealth will fully assist Bangladesh during the election and the post-election transition process,” she stated.
She added that the Commonwealth’s 56 member states—including G7 and G20 members—offer significant opportunities for mutual cooperation.
During her visit, the Commonwealth chief also met the Chief Justice, the Legal Affairs Adviser, the Foreign Affairs Adviser, and the Chief Election Commissioner, among other key stakeholders.
