Masrur Arefin, Managing Director and CEO of City Bank PLC, has been honored with the prestigious ‘CEO of the Year—2025’ award in the financial institutions category at the fourth edition of the Bangladesh C-Suite Awards.
He received the award in recognition of his exceptional leadership at City Bank and his contributions to the country’s financial sector spanning over three decades. Previous winners in this category include Ali Reza Iftekhar (Eastern Bank), Syed Mahbubur Rahman (MTBL), and Kamal Quadir (bKash).
Under Masrur’s leadership, City Bank has achieved remarkable milestones over the past six years. Operating profit grew from BDT 6.99 billion in 2018 to BDT 23.51 billion in 2024, while net profit rose from BDT 2.02 billion to BDT 10.85 billion. Return on equity increased from 8.2% to 26.1%, and the bank’s total capital more than doubled. In 2024, the central bank recognized City Bank as the country’s leading sustainable bank.
Masrur has also spearheaded City Bank’s digital transformation, expanding the CitiTouch platform and implementing innovative solutions such as Digital Nano Loans, advancing financial inclusion across Bangladesh.
