At 10:38 a.m. Friday, an earthquake shook Dhaka and several other regions of Bangladesh. According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, the quake measured 5.7 on the Richter scale, while the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported a magnitude of 5.5. The epicenter was Madhabdi in Narsingdi.
Reports came from Chandpur, Nilphamari, Sitakunda, Sirajganj, Narayanganj, Patuakhali, Bogura, Barisal, and Moulvibazar. In Dhaka, residents rushed outdoors in fear as the tremor lasted a few seconds.
The earthquake was also felt in parts of West Bengal, India. Rajib Ahmed from Barisal said, “I was sitting in a single-story shop, and everything was shaking.
