Ashraful Alom, widely known as Hero Alom, was granted bail just hours after being arrested in a case filed by his former wife alleging attempted murder and assault.
On Saturday afternoon, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rakibul Hasan approved his bail upon a bond of 200 taka. He was released from the court detention cell around 6:35 p.m., following completion of formalities.
Earlier in the day, police detained him from his office in Dhaka’s Hatirjheel area and produced him before the court with a request to send him to jail. During the hearing, Alom’s lawyer argued that he had missed four earlier court dates due to miscommunication with his legal team, which led to his previous bail being revoked. The lawyer claimed that there was no evidence Alom had physically harmed or defamed anyone.
The plaintiff’s lawyer countered that Alom had repeatedly failed to appear in court, amounting to contempt, and warned that he might abscond again if released. Present in the courtroom, complainant Riya Moni—Alom’s former wife—became emotional as she recounted being publicly humiliated, verbally abused, and subjected to cyberbullying.
After hearing both sides, the court granted Alom bail.
The case was filed in June, alleging that Alom lured Riya Moni to a meeting under the pretext of reconciliation, assaulted her, and took a gold chain from her possession. A warrant was issued against him last week after he violated the conditions of an earlier bail order.
