Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam, BPM said that no terrorist or evil force will be able to thwart the upcoming national election. All police units are active in this regard. He said that the police have been controversial in the last 3 elections.
They have been forced to do bias and injustice. That is why the police will learn from all the mistakes of the past and perform their impartial duties in the next national elections. That is why members of all police units are being trained.
He said these things at a press briefing at Boyra Police Lines in Khulna on Saturday afternoon. Earlier, the IGP inspected the ongoing election training of police members at the Police Training Center (TTC), Arm Police Battalion, RRF and KMP in Khulna.
In the press briefing, Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam R.O. said that the current government wants a fair, beautiful and impartial election. As a result, the police have many responsibilities and duties in this election. That is why we are being trained in training.
This is the first time that training is being provided on the responsibilities and duties of the police, he said, noting that in the elections of the past 14, 18 and 24, the police were used to make the elections controversial. As a result, this time, a well-organized election will be held by shaking off everything of the past with self-initiated training. However, among these, those police members who have not yet been able to improve or cannot be corrected will not be given the main leadership responsibility in the elections. Range DIGs and police superintendents have been instructed to identify the controversial ones. The matter will be discussed during the distribution of responsibilities in January.
Expressing hope that the police will be able to perform their duties properly in the elections, the IGP said, people are eager for the elections. However, it is not possible for the police alone to control everything. Therefore, it will be possible to hold a peaceful and impartial election with the cooperation of everyone.
Admitting that fake news is being spread through social media through AI and misinformation, he said, these issues are being looked into. However, he also mentioned that we have to decide how much you can do or write in the name of freedom.
In response to a question from journalists, he said, the investigation into the cases filed against the police has not made much progress. However, 21 people have been arrested in 19 murders and 37 other cases filed against the police. However, we have not been able to arrest 30-31 people yet.
Regarding the filing of false cases against the common people, the IGP said, if anyone is involved in false cases after August 5, they have been instructed to recommend to the court from the concerned TANA to be dismissed through Ordinance 173. Meanwhile, the DMP has been asked not to harass more than 2,000 people in the case.
