Rangpur businessman Ashraful Haque has been accused of being killed by his close friend Jarezul Islam and Jarezul’s girlfriend Shamima Akhter alias Kohinoor (33) for trapping him in a well-planned love trap and trying to extort Tk 1 million.
A month ago, Shamima had a fake love affair with Ashraful and later called him to Dhaka and murdered him. After the murder, the body was cut into 26 pieces.
RAB-3 commander Lt. Col. Fayezul Arefin revealed this information at a briefing held at Karwan Bazar on Saturday.
RAB said that on the morning of November 14, Shamima was arrested from her house in Bora Bijra area of Laksam, Comilla, in a special operation.
According to investigation sources, Ashraful Haque left Rangpur for Dhaka at 8 pm on November 11 with his friend Jarezul Islam from the same village to collect business debts. The next morning, family members found Ashraful’s mobile phone switched off, which made them suspicious.
On November 13, the body of an unidentified man, cut into 26 pieces, was recovered from two blue drums near the High Court water pump. Later, the CID confirmed by analyzing fingerprints that the body belonged to the missing businessman Ashraful Haque.
RAB said that the motive for the murder was to blackmail Ashraful with an intimate video and collect a large sum of money—which was planned in advance by the two accused.
