A series of targeted attacks on minority residences has left locals in deep panic after a couple of Hindu houses were vandalized by religious extremists in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila. Prompt police intervention narrowly saved the residence of a local citizen from being destroyed during the spree of violence.
According to police and local eyewitnesses, the orchestrated violence broke out under the direct leadership of regional Hefazat-e-Islam and Jamaat-e-Islami leaders. Armed with sticks and native weapons, a large group of radicals stormed the locality, systematically targeting and vandalizing the homes belonging to the Hindu community.
After damaging several minority properties, the unruly mob advanced towards the residence of Tarok Saha Roy, a respected citizen of Narsingdi Municipality’s Ward No. 04, with the intention of breaking it down. Sensing imminent danger, Tarok Saha Roy immediately contacted the local law enforcement authorities. Fortunately, a police team arrived at the scene on time, forcing the attackers to retreat and preventing further destruction to the house.
Speaking on the matter, the citizen stated that his son, Atanu Saha Roy, has been a repeated target of these extremist groups, stemming from a previous confrontation during the Durga Puja festival. He believes the attackers targeted his family residence out of pre-existing malice against his son’s stance.
When contacted, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Narsingdi Police Station confirmed the incident, stating, “Our team responded immediately to the distress call and successfully thwarted the attack on the ward member’s house. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order. We are investigating the matter and conducting raids to apprehend those behind this communal violence.”
