On the occasion of the birth centenary of eminent filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak, his film Titas Ekti Nodir Naam (A River Called Titas) was screened at Nandan cinema hall in Kolkata. The opening speech of the festival was delivered by the film’s producer, renowned Bangladeshi film personality Habibur Rahman Khan.
He narrated the history of producing the film, saying that he spent an entire year continuously with Ritwik Ghatak during its making. He added that he could not even go to see his first child after birth because he was so deeply involved in the production. The film Titas Ekti Nodir Naam is currently preserved in the Channel i Archive.
At the inaugural ceremony, speeches were also given by the festival chairman Gautam Ghosh and Bangladesh’s Deputy High Commissioner Ashraful Islam. The event was moderated by Kolkata’s renowned actor Parambrata Chatterjee.
The festival will continue until November 13.
A total of 215 films from 39 countries are being screened across 23 theatres during the festival.
