In Faridpur’s Boalmari, at least 50 BNP activists were injured in fierce clashes between two factions during a program marking National Revolution and Solidarity Day. The incident took place around 5 pm on Friday (7 November) in the Boalmari market area. During the clash, 15 motorcycles were vandalized, looted, and set on fire.
According to local sources, the conflict stems from a longstanding rivalry over political dominance between supporters of former BNP MP and central Krishak Dal vice-president Khandaker Nasirul Islam and former joint secretary of Boalmari upazila BNP, Shamsuddin Mia Jhunu.
Both sides had separately announced programs in the same area. As supporters of the two factions gathered in the market, tension escalated into chase and counter-chase, followed by stone-pelting and physical assault. Several motorcycles were set ablaze during the violence.
Fire service personnel attempted to respond, but were forced to retreat amid the chaos. Later, army and police intervened and brought the situation under control.
At least 15 severely injured persons have been admitted to the upazila health complex and Faridpur Medical College Hospital.
Later in the evening, a press conference was held at Satair Bazar by supporters of Shamsuddin Mia Jhunu, presided over by Upazila BNP President Advocate Siraj Mia.
