Today, November 7, is the historic National Revolution and Solidarity Day. The day holds significant importance in Bangladesh’s political history.
On this day in 1975, a joint uprising by soldiers and the masses took place, during which the then Chief of Army Staff and the proclaimer of independence, Major General Ziaur Rahman, was freed from temporary confinement—bringing an end to the prevailing political turmoil.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and like-minded parties have been observing this day as National Revolution and Solidarity Day. During BNP’s tenure, it was observed as a public holiday, but the Awami League government later cancelled the holiday.
This year, the BNP has undertaken a ten-day program from November 5 to November 13 to observe the occasion. As part of the day’s program, party flags were hoisted this morning at the central office in Nayapaltan and across district offices nationwide.
At 10 a.m., leaders and workers of the party will offer prayers and lay wreaths at the grave of the late President and Bir Uttam Ziaur Rahman. Additionally, rallies, discussions, documentaries, posters, and special publications are scheduled to commemorate the day.
