The investigation report on the military aircraft crash at Milestone School and College in Uttara has been submitted to the Chief Adviser. Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed the matter at a press conference held at the Foreign Service Academy on Wednesday.
He stated that the report identified pilot error during flight training as the primary cause of the crash. During the training, the pilot reportedly lost control of the aircraft.
The Press Secretary further said the investigation committee interviewed 150 individuals, including experts and victims’ families, and uncovered 168 findings. The committee also issued 33 recommendations. The key recommendation is that all basic flight training for the Bangladesh Air Force should be moved outside of Dhaka for public safety.
The report also revealed that the Milestone campus building did not have approval from RAJUK and was constructed without following building safety codes. The building was supposed to have three staircases but had only one. The committee noted that the number of casualties could have been lower if proper exits had been in place.
On July 21, a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed onto the Milestone School and College campus in Uttara’s Diabari area during a training session. The incident is considered the deadliest military aviation accident in the country’s history, resulting in 36 deaths, including students, teachers, and parents, and leaving more than 100 injured.
