The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved filing a case against Nurjahan Begum, wife of former Feni MP Nizam Uddin Hazari, on charges of accumulating wealth beyond known income sources and suspicious financial transactions. The information was confirmed on Tuesday by ACC Director General Md. Akhter Hossain.
According to the ACC investigation, Nurjahan Begum declared assets worth Tk 53.63 crore in her wealth statement. After verifying family expenditures, the ACC found evidence of Tk 45,34,13,851 in assets that she could not legally account for.
In addition, from May 2019 to August 2024, she carried out suspicious transactions amounting to Tk 43,31,47,803 through an account at First Security Islami Bank.
It is notable that multiple ACC cases also exist against Nurjahan’s husband, former MP Nizam Uddin Hazari, involving illegal wealth accumulation, land and commercial property purchases under various names in several districts including Dhaka and Feni, and alleged money laundering abroad.
After the fall of the government following the July 2024 mass uprising, Nizam Hazari and several of his close associates reportedly fled the country.
