The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has announced candidates for 237 constituencies in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia will contest from Feni-01, Bogura-07, and Dinajpur-03, while Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman will run from Bogura-06.
The announcement was made by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at a press conference held this afternoon (Monday) at the party chairperson’s political office in Gulshan. He added that the names of candidates for the remaining constituencies will be announced later and that some seats will be allocated to alliance partners.
Earlier in the day, the BNP’s Standing Committee held an emergency meeting lasting nearly five hours. The meeting was chaired virtually by Tarique Rahman from London. Discussions centered around finalizing candidates and outlining strategies amid the current political situation.
According to the Election Commission, the national election is expected to be held in the first half of February, with the official schedule to be announced in early December.
Senior BNP leaders, including Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Selima Rahman, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Abbas, and Hafizuddin Ahmed, were present at the press conference, along with other senior and organizational secretaries.
