Dhaka University (DU) Assistant Professor of Public Administration and Assistant Proctor Sheherin Amin Bhuiya Monami has filed a case under the Cyber Security Act after her photos were edited and spread on Facebook with obscene and defamatory comments.
The case was filed on Monday (November 3) at Shahbagh Police Station, where several DUCSU (Dhaka University Central Students’ Union) leaders accompanied her.
Confirming the matter, DUCSU’s Law and Human Rights Secretary Md. Zakaria wrote on social media, “Sheherin Amin Bhuiya ma’am has filed a case under the Cyber Security Act against those who edited and shared her photos. I have provided legal assistance.” He added that the case has been forwarded to the DB Cyber Unit for further investigation, and those who continue such activities will also be brought under legal action.
According to Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Khalid Monsur, four people have been named as accused in the case:

Journalist and activist Mujtaba Khondakar,

Writer and activist Mohiyuddin Mohammad,

Nirab Hossain, a student of Dhaka College, and
-
Ashfaq Hossain Evan.
The FIR includes screenshots of the accuseds’ Facebook profiles and posts. In addition, Monami alleged that several unidentified individuals also edited and shared her photos from various accounts, posting obscene and defamatory remarks.
Speaking to reporters, Monami said, “Repeatedly seeing my photos edited and posted with vulgar and defamatory comments has left me mentally distressed. I delayed filing the complaint after consulting with others. I have requested the authorities to take necessary legal action under the Cyber Security Act against those involved.
