BNP Chairperson’s adviser Abdus Salam expressed regret after reportedly elbowing senior journalist Modabber Hossain in the chest at the National Press Club. The incident, which occurred on Saturday (November 1) afternoon, went viral on social media, and Salam met with Hossain on Monday to apologize. In the meeting, Salam said, “I am sorry. Such an incident happened in the crowd, which should not have occurred. I have known and liked him for a long time.”
Journalist Modabber Hossain expressed concern over the viral video, saying, “The video was cut and circulated. If the full incident were seen, there would have been no confusion. Salam Bhai is a senior leader, and I hold no grudge. But the viral video has damaged our reputations.”
Hossain also mentioned that Abdus Salam is a BNP nomination aspirant from Nilphamari-4. The video appears to have been circulated conspiratorially to suggest a conflict between them or within the party, but in reality, there is no such disagreement.
The incident occurred during a Nationalist Freedom Fighters Party event on Saturday afternoon. At the end of the event, while BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was getting into a car, Abdus Salam reportedly elbowed Modabber Hossain, who was standing in front of him, to move him aside.
Later, Hossain said that Abdus Salam called him to express regret, and he forgave him. However, due to the video going viral, both parties have faced unwanted criticism.
