BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmad has said that in Bangladesh, Islam is often used for political gain ahead of elections, which is harmful to the country and society.
He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the ‘Azmate Sahaba’ gathering organized by the Qasemi Parishad at the central Eidgah ground in Esdair, Narayanganj, on Saturday afternoon.
Salahuddin Ahmad stated, “We follow the Islam of Madinah, not the Islam of Maududi. We must distance ourselves from those who create discord and division. Islam should never be used as a tool for political purposes.”
He further added, “We should learn from the mistakes of the previous Awami League government, which practiced Islamophobic and anti-religious politics. Their political downfall has been severe. Therefore, we must engage in principled politics to eradicate malpractice and establish a culture of healthy politics in the country.”
The gathering was presided over by Mufti Maulana Monir Kashemi, president of Narayanganj District Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam.
