An overnight clash broke out between students of Daffodil International University and City University in Ashulia, Savar, involving hours of chase-and-counter-chase, vandalism, and arson. The violent incident began on Sunday evening (October 26) and continued late into the night.
According to eyewitnesses, the conflict began when a City University student allegedly misbehaved with a student from Daffodil International University near a building called Bachelor Paradise. The altercation soon escalated into a heated argument between students of both universities. Around 9 p.m., nearly 50 students from City University, armed with sticks and bricks, attacked and vandalized a house where Daffodil students lived, sparking chaos.
Police teams from Savar Station were deployed to control the situation, but students alleged that law enforcement failed to intervene effectively for nearly four hours. At least 50 students from both sides were injured during the clashes.
As the night progressed, the violence intensified. After midnight, Daffodil students entered the City University campus, vandalizing the administrative building and other facilities. Several computers and valuables were looted, while three buses and one private car were set on fire, and five more vehicles were damaged. Multiple homemade explosives (cocktails) were also detonated, spreading panic among locals.
Duty Officer SI Habibur Rahman of Savar Police Station said, “Our senior officers are on the spot. The situation is now under control, and efforts are underway to maintain stability.”
As of Monday morning, tension remains high in the area, with additional police forces deployed to prevent further unrest.
