The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has set a limit of 10 SIM cards per National ID (NID). Customers who currently have more than 10 SIMs registered under their name must de-register the extra SIMs or transfer ownership by October 30.
In an urgent notice issued on Sunday (October 26), BTRC stated that if the required action is not taken within the specified period, the commission will automatically cancel the extra SIMs.
The notice also mentioned that customers can check the number of SIMs registered under their NID by dialing *16001#, entering the last four digits of their NID, and sending the request.
BTRC explained that many customers unknowingly have multiple SIMs registered in their name, which could be misused for criminal activities. For this reason, the maximum limit has been set at 10 SIMs.
Customers are advised to contact the customer care or service center of their mobile operator to easily de-register extra SIMs or apply for a change of ownership.
